Find a Professional Photographer
Choosing the right photographer to create your once-in-a-lifetime Senior portrait takes planning. Be proactive! With a little research, the result will be Senior pictures that you and your family will absolutely love, that only a professional photographer can create.
Dan's Insider Tips
1. Ask if the photographer has a studio.
- Do they have an outdoor or garden location?
- Will they shoot on-location?
- Keep in mind that various settings (studio or on-location) make for unique Senior portraits.
2. Ask if the photographer offers free consultations.
- Most photographers allow prospective clients to see their work in person.
- Tour their studio and discuss your style and what you are looking for in your photos.
3. Do the photographer's prices fit your budget?
- While you are visiting the studio, it's a great time to inquire about cost (sitting fees/changes of clothing/various venues).
- Working with your family or friends will make selecting the right photographer easier. This will ensure you receive the most unique photos – within your budget.
4. Call early during your Senior year to schedule!
- It cannot be stressed enough – call early to select from a variety of times available on the photographer's schedule, especially if you wish to capture an outdoor/seasonal look.
- If you haven't done this during the studio visit, it's wise to arrange a consultation about your photos to discuss your ideas (i.e., personal props/clothing/accessories/hair and make-up).
5. Ask the photographer about shooting/proofs/ordering/delivery.
- Does the photographer snap and shoot hundreds of images and then you have to weed through the good & bad? Or is he willing to edit and choose the best images?
- Does the photographer simply offer to create a CD of your photo shoots? Will you receive a small spiral-bound book of proofs vs. a beautiful coffee table quality book of proofs?
- Inquire how and when your proofs/final portrait photographs will be processed, their ordering timeframe and delivery (or pickup) from the studio.
